World Heritage Sites in China

The World Heritage List was established under terms of The Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage adopted in November 1972 at the 17th General Conference of UNESCO.

China started to submit to The World Heritage List in 1987. As of November 2007, among the 845 World Heritage Sites listed by UNESCO in 185 states parties, China has 35, ranking the third in the world. These sites comprise the most essential part of China's valuable and rich tourism resources.
